In the US alone, there were more than four million black travelers in 2018. What’s influencing this wanderlust? We are; and as we travel more, there seem to be different types of travelers who are influencing people to explore more. So let’s get into it and discover your type. Don’t forget to download the FREEBIE at the end!

The Corporate Queen

Professional by day, traveler by night! Whether it’s a work trip or the luxury of ‘working from anywhere’, the Corporate Queen maximizes her travel journey by adding extra days or exploring cities after work. Thanks to her native coworkers, an authentic itinerary is easy to obtain. The ‘local tea’ (i.e. travel tips) from coworkers is an advantage for the Corporate Queen. Not only does she spend less time planning, her native guides escort her to all the local and popular attractions. Her Instagram may contain, “Work Hard, Travel Harder!” with pictures from the popular attractions around the world.

The Squad

The ‘Squad’, being your favorite entourage of girlfriend travelers, loves a good jaunt. They travel together to reminisce on old memories while also creating new ones. The trip is typically booked last minute while their ensembles and outfits are planned for months. An itinerary including cute brunch restaurants, day parties, and popular sites is created…however, they all agree it is flexible. The Squad creates a ‘FOMO’ (fear of missing out) experience for their followers through coordinated outfits and ‘lit’ moments on the gram.

The Country Counter

The Country Counter has a destination list…which includes all 195 countries recognized

by the United Nations.

As a personal goal, she strategically plans all her trips.

Visiting multiple cities in one country is not necessarily a priority, rather she prefers exploring multiple countries at a time. From touring the most popular attractions to the local favorites, she loves to travel. Her Instagram bio includes how many countries she has toured and her next destination.

The Travel Deal Specialist

Some people view her as cheap, others frugal, however, she identifies as the Travel Deal Specialist. She enjoys exploring the world without denting her bank account. All-inclusive resorts and cruises are some of her preferred travel vacations because the trip is procured before she departs. Skyscanner, Hotel Tonight, Trail Wallet, and Lounge Buddy are apps used while traveling and finding deals. Her Instagram timeline includes posts like ‘five suggestions for traveling to Europe on a budget’ or ‘10 savings tips to consider for your next getaway.’

In all, the Travel Deal Specialist dismisses the notion you have to be rich to travel and gives the hope that with the right tools, travel is accessible to all.

The Risk Taker

From house sitting to teaching English, the Risk Taker not only aspires to travel but pursues an immersion experience in different cities and countries. While some travelers plan their accommodations in advance, the Risk Taker packs a suitcase and assesses logistics upon arrival. Facebook groups, Couchsurfing, and Meetup are key resources/apps for finding housing and friends while traveling. Depending on her travel or personal goals, she stays in a destination for several months or longer. Local bookmark worthy experiences are shared on Instagram, leaving her followers wondering where she will wander next.

The Content Creator

The Content Creator curates visually compelling content for a brand and/or Instagram. Her trips are planned in advance with mood boards, Pinterest, and researching resorts and cities for the prime location to capture a moment. Rising early to avoid photo-bombing tourists, she spends the majority of her trip snapping tantalizing pictures to share on Instagram. She inspires travel by creating stories through photography, videos, or a combination of both. Her profile tells a story through visual aesthetics, coordinated color schemes, and creative templates.

The Travel Blogger

The Travel Blogger is recognized as the new Pinterest and Google. When travelers and/or content creators are developing an itinerary, they seek inspiration from their favorite Travel Blogger. From the newest travel fashion trends to the highest-ranked restaurants and hotels, the Travel Blogger is a trusted and valued resource. Her trips are planned with an end goal in mind - to seek experiences that create a captivating and enlightening anecdotal account for her travel tribe.

The Fearless Traveler

IMG_3173.jpeg

From travel rookies to veterans, the Fearless Traveler seeks unforgettable experiences. Traveling allows her to escape the day-to-day responsibilities and just live. She is looking to be inspired by different destinations and notice things we ignore on a typical day. Exploring different cultures, trying new foods, and/or learning new languages are experiences she looks to carry for a lifetime. She is sure the world was created to be explored. Sometimes she wants to be a beach bum, other times she seeks adventure in a metro city. All in all, she just wants to see the world.

Did you discover your type? Are you a combination of multiple types? No matter if your goal is to make connections, broaden your horizons, build a brand, or just to kick it, keep inspiring others to join the wanderlust experience. God created this world for us to enjoy its beauty. So again I ask you, what’s your type?
